Food delivery aggregator Zomato has reportedly offered to acquire logistics start-up ShipRocket for $2 billion.

Bloomberg reported this originally, though no final decision has been taken yet on the offer.

Zomato is already an investor in the logistics company. In December 2021, ShipRocket concluded a $185 million funding round led by Zomato, Temasek, and Lightrock.

Shiprocket plans to invest $1 billion in the next couple of years, focusing primarily on the quick commerce sector, in addition to formulating an extensive plan to invest in various start-ups, including Magicpin. Zomato stated that it is keeping a close watch on every start-up performing well in the food and quick commerce segment.

According to the figures released by the company in the September quarter results, Zomato had made a profit of Rs 36 crore. Before this, the company had earned a profit of Rs 2 crore in the last June quarter. Revenue from operations during the September quarter has increased by 71 per cent on an annual basis to Rs 2848 crore. According to Zomato, there has been a 29 percent sequential increase in gross order value in Blinkit.

Founded in 2017, the Delhi-based logistics unicorn ShipRocket revealed a significant 78 percent increase in operating revenue for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2023. The company's operating revenue reached Rs 1,089 crore, marking a substantial 1.7 times growth from the previous fiscal year's Rs 611 crore.
