Coursera experienced a significant increase in interest for GenAI content, witnessing a four-fold growth in searches in India compared to the previous year.

The report disclosed that Indian learners were enrolling in GenAI courses on Coursera approximately every three minutes throughout the year.

The report is based on data from over 22.2 million registered learners in India.

To address the growing demand for genAI content, Coursera collaborated with top global universities and industry educators, introducing more than 35 courses or projects on its platform. This initiative garnered 196,000 enrollments in India, the company added in a release.

The 2023 data shows that Indian learners are particularly enthusiastic about courses that provide high-demand technology and data science skills, indicating a keen desire to gain the competencies needed to thrive in the modern, digital economy.

There was also a rising uptake of courses that are part of entry-level professional certificates, which require no background knowledge or college degree, and teach the skills needed for entry-level roles. 50 per cent of the top courses in India like Google’s Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere, and Foundations of Project Management are part of these programs, the report observed.

“In 2023, India's passion for learning soared on Coursera. The interest in GenAI, leadership, tech, and data skills, not only reflects the learners’ thirst for cutting-edge knowledge but also their commitment to staying at the forefront of the digital revolution”, said Raghav Gupta, managing director, India and APAC, Coursera.

Califonia-based start-up has more than 229 partners in 54 countries. These partners include Yale University, Duke University, Virginia University, and London University. Big companies like Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Goldman Sachs are now offering various types of courses in the Coursera app. Today the company offers a total of 6,533 courses to its more than 73 million members, as per the reports.

The company's valuation has increased to $5 billion, although its debut on the US stock market is yet to be determined, as reported by Bloomberg.
