Meta is expected to roll out the web version of its newly launched social media platform Threads which is seen as the rival of Twitter/X, reported US media outlet Wall Street Journal. As per the report, the company wants to launch the web version early next week but there is still a possibility of some changes at the last moment. Although users have been able to change some posts on the web its access is limited mainly because of the fact that Threads is built for mobile phone users.
Confirming the information, Adam Mosseri, CEO of Threads and Instagram said that the web version is being tested internally and we are working on it. "We've been using an early version initially for a week or two. Still needs some work before we can open it up to everyone though," he added.

The company is working on some more features that include the addition of the following tab and enabling users to verify a link with their Mastodon profile. As per the US media report, to stop fake news and propaganda the platform has started showing labels for state-controlled media from Thursday.

Meta owns Threads, which has ownership over Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. The app was launched on July 5 in its bid to counter social media platform X/Twitter. It was launched in the app and has added around 100 million monthly active users to the platform.

But within a month it saw a decrease in its usage. As per the report by Similar Web, the app's usage has gone down by 79 per cent after a month of its launch. Even in the USA where the platform got a warm welcome, the time spent decreased by 85 per cent. As per the report, peak usage for Threads was 2.3 million daily active users on July 7 but it drastically saw a decrease on August 7 which was about 576000 users. There are approximately 100 million monthly active users paired with the platform worldwide.
