EVM-based blockchain start-up Shardeum has launched a 'community backpacking tour' in India and Nepal. Spread over 90 days, it intends to introduce the world of Web3 and its potential to students.

The start-up will meet over 7500 students across 50 educational institutions in 28 Indian states and Nepal. This includes Indian states like Sikkim, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur.

In addition, the tour will cover a host of metro and non-metro cities in the country, such as Chennai, Mumbai, Dharwad, Vellore, Nagpur, Surat, and Patna, among others. Premium institutions such as IIT Goa, Vellore Institute of Technology, etc., are a part of the agenda. In Nepal, a workshop will be conducted at a leading institute in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Even though India is poised to become a global pioneer in the adoption of Web3, with approximately 11 per cent of the global talent pool, the country faces challenges due to a lack of the technology's awareness and its potential. To address this issue, Shardeum will conduct Web3 workshops across leading tech and engineering institutions across the country.

Nischal Shetty, co-founder of Shardeum, said, “Web3 is where the global future is headed towards, and India can be at the epicentre of this Web3 movement. At Shardeum, we are determined to play a pioneering role in this movement by creating awareness and educating students about Web3 and its potential. We believe that Web3 has the potential to create millions of jobs over the next 4-5 years and India can emerge as a global talent pool in this space.”

Sharedeum is an EVM-based Layer 1 blockchain that uses dynamic state sharding to increase TPS with the addition of every new node while retaining atomic composability. It has raised around $24 million in funding backed by investors like Jane Street, Amber Group and Struck Capital. The firm is also planning to launch its fully-operational mainnet blockchain by the end of 2023.
