In a surprise announcement, Alphabet Inc, the parent company of Google, revealed that the chief executive officer (CEO) of YouTube, Susan Wojcicki, has resigned from her position. She will be succeeded by Indian-American Neal Mohan, who is currently serving as the Chief Product Officer (CPO) at YouTube.

In a blog post, Wojcicki stated that she wants to spend more time with her family, health and personal projects that she is passionate about. However, she will continue to be associated with the company in an advisory capacity during the transition process.

Wojcicki has been at the helm of YouTube for the past nine years, during which the platform has seen considerable growth. She focused on making the video-sharing platform more accessible to advertisers while also managing the video creators who powered the website. Under her leadership, YouTube became one of the major contributors to Alphabet's revenue, generating over 10 per cent of the company's total revenue in 2022.

Prior to becoming CEO of YouTube in 2014, Wojcicki served as the senior vice president for ad products at Google. She has been associated with the company for nearly 25 years and was one of its earliest employees.

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin praised Wojcicki's contribution to the company in a statement, saying, "Susan has a unique place in Google history and has made the most incredible contribution to products used by people everywhere."

Mohan, who will take over as CEO, has been with YouTube for over a decade and has been responsible for the platform's products and user experience over all platforms globally. His appointment as the new CEO is a testament to the company's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
