Ex WhatsApp Pay India Head, Vinay Choletti, may join Tata Digital's payment business. Sources aware of the development told The Economic Times.

Tata Digital, which houses e commerce super-app Neu, has been in the process of building its digital payments platform.  The company recently witnessed the exits of two of its senior executives Sharath Bulusu and Prateek Mehta. Both of them spent less than one year in the company after joining.

Choletti joined WhatsApp in October 2021 and was appointed as the head of the company's merchants' payments business in September this year after his predecessor Manesh Mahatme quit the position. He resigned after serving his post only for four months.

"Today was my last day at WhatsApp Pay and as I sign off, I can proudly say that watching the scale and the influence of WhatsApp in India has been a humbling experience. The last year personally has been a great learning journey and the excitement of being in the frontline and launching some global first payments use cases such as "QR tickets for Bangalore Metro on WhatsApp” was unmatched,”  he wrote.

Prior to WhatsApp, Choletti worked with Amazon for seven years. He also served multiple other enterprises including ITC, American Express, Citi Bank and Mashreq Bank.

Meta India recently witnessed a series of exits of senior executives. Before Choletti, Abhijit Bose, the chief of WhatsApp India, Rajiv Agarwal, the public policy director and Ajit Mohan, Head of Meta India, resigned.

Globally, Meta was seen to cut down its employee bandwidth to combat the global economic downturn. It recently laid off 13 per cent of its staff to keep the business profitable.
