In an attempt to nurture the start-up ecosystem, the Tamil Nadu government launched a clutch of new schemes targeting green tech, rural impact and women-led start-ups.

The initiatives will back start-ups from the sectors under the Tamil Nadu Start-Up Seed Grant Fund (TANSEED). The companies are expected to receive financial support, mentorship and incubation facilities to grow. The whole endeavour aims to boost the undertakings of the Tamil Nadu Start-Up and Innovation Mission ( Start-Up TN).

The companies will receive the money in three instalments of 50,00,00 after completing certain milestones. Additionally, women-led enterprises and rural-impact start-ups will receive 25 per cent and 10 per cent of assistance from the TANSEED, respectively.

The packages also include flexible co-working spaces for free of rent at the state supported incubation centre and an annual acceleration scheme for women-led and fem-tech start-ups.  Focussed angel investors under the Tamil Angels Platform can also invest as a part of the initiatives.

The Tamil Nadu government launched the flagship programme TANSEED to support the growth of early-stage start-ups with financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each. Till now, nearly sixty start-ups have received the money.

On Friday, the chief minister, M K Stalin, launched a mentor TN Portal, a platform, through which start-ups can approach successful entrepreneurs and professionals and subject matter experts to get suggestions for growing their businesses. The figures are expected to share their expertise and experience to support the enterprises.
