The head of WhatsApp Pay’s India business, Vinay Choletti, has stepped down four months after taking charge of this role. He announced his departure through a LinkedIn post.

"Today was my last day at WhatsApp Pay and as I sign off, I can proudly say that watching the scale and the influence of WhatsApp in India has been a humbling experience. The last year personally has been a great learning journey and the excitement of being in the frontline and launching some global first payments use cases such as "QR tickets for Bangalore Metro on WhatsApp” was unmatched, Choletti wrote.

"As I move on to my next adventure, I strongly believe that WhatsApp has the power to transform digital payments and financial inclusion in India phenomenally. I look forward to seeing it leverage its potential in the coming years," he added.

After working for seven years at Amazon, Choletti joined WhatsApp in September 2021 and became the chief of the company’s merchants' payments business in October of this year.

According to a Reuters report, Meta, WhatsApp's parent company, has seen a round of exits in senior executive roles in recent times. This includes Abhijit Bose, head of WhatsApp India, Ajit Mohan, India head of Meta and Rajiv Aggarwal, Public Policy Director of Meta.

Along with the departures, Meta was also seen cutting employee bandwidth in order to combat global economic hardships. It recently laid off nearly 13 per cent of staff to keep the business on profitability track.
